(ah finally)
FRIDAY 5:30am
Seth. Seth. Wake Up.
Journal is that you?
Sure is. Listen, can you do me a favor?
No problem partner. What do you want?
Well, I was kind of hoping you could feed me, sheet by sheet, to a shredder and make little paper wigs with my remains.
Are you serious?
No, no, not at all. Come on Seth, look at me, I still have a good 70 pages (front and back) to go. That would be ridiculous. Besides, I enjoy your company.
What do you really want then?
I’d like you to take me out of this paper bag, just for a couple of minutes, and rest me on your lap.
Why? Is the wine bottle snoring?
The wine bottle hasn’t made a peep all night. It looked as though he was dead until that sucker rolled over and bruised my spine.
Poor thing, are you okay?
I might be peeling, but it’s nothing a little scotch tape can’t cure. What’s really stirring my lines is that book, One Eye Looking Backwards. So can you please get me out of here?
I’m on my way. But you have to promise to keep quiet. Everyone’s asleep. You have my words.
Done.
Whoa someone’s got a stiffy!
Sorry, I was thinking of her.
Ah, the infamous she. I’ve heard all about her.
Of course you have. She’s scrawled all over you.
All over thirty pages I imagine.
Thirty pages in you alone. Now, what’s the trouble with One Eye?
Seth, it won’t stop chanting. Not that I mind, but it’s the same words over and over and over again.
What the hell is he saying?
We’re here! We’re here! We’re here!
Well, I’ll be damned Journal. We are here!
5 Comments:
Wow, I've got to say I've had a discussion very similar with my journal for a bout five years now!! I like the way you personify things and make them alive for everyone who reads this. I can't wait to read what your journal whispers to that crazy bottle of wine... or whine? ;)
does ur blog talk too?
superpowers:
...hmmm ah yes, it's great to build bonds with inanimacy (apparantly i just made that word up so the task is upon me to define it, i meant to say inanimate but it's linguistically awkward to have "a bond with inanimate," so, let's see, in this context inanimcay now means 'the state of being inanimate'...of course, i could've just said "build bonds with the inanimate," but then this wonderful word inanimacy would never have existed)...now, where were we?...the more you personify inanimacy, the stronger the relationship that results and the more you begin to realize how animate inanimacy is...right now, i'm the only hunk of flesh in my room, but boy does that painting resting against the wall speak- hardly a characteristic of inanimacy i'd say...
ps. next time you're in the library check out "Skinny Legs and All" (there must be at least 100 pages of philosophical dialogue between a painted stick, a conch shell, a can o' beans, dirty sock and silver spoon...plus it's tied for my second favorite book of all time though at that level of perfection i'm not really judging, furthermore as if everything's not connected already, it is the pilgrimage i took to meet the author of that book, tom robbins, that all these silly entries are about, it was he who inspired this conversation with inanimacy)
pss
would you like to check out my cell phone cover? j/k =p
chelle
...everything speaks, not everyone listens...
(Mesmerized and flattered about the long response, and about the nickname you're baptizing me with) I'm so glad to know I'm not going insane finding life in everything "not living". (I think I would of gotten the meaning of inanimacy... But it's much more fun when I don't assume and let things be explained. Not an exception here. You did it quite beautifully, I must say.)
I will have to endulge in "Skinny Legs and All"... Not only because of the obvious reason that I must know how that moved you to face a journey of that magnitude... but also... in hopes to know one day which is your "first favorite book of all time"...
Ah, yes, the everlasting cell phone cover question... I was wondering how you know so much about me :) The word "duh" means nothing now...
No te pierdas.
P.S. You'd never believe it, but one of my journals has that same "wired" cover, but in red.
